2007 Judged Trail Ride

The second annual Themed Judged Trail Ride will be held on June 24th. This is a rain or shine event where riders ride at their own pace through a ribbon marked trail this year with treasure map in hand. Riders will encounter 10 different obstacles all with our theme of "Pirates of the Caribbean". Lunch is included with lot's of great prizes and this year a prize for the best dressed rider and the best dressed horse. We look forward to seeing all the 'Pirates' out on the trail on June 24th. See link above for a registration form. (pre-registration not required - riders depart CTR club grounds between 8A-11A).

The Northeast Mountain Horse Club held it’s first judged trail ride which was a huge success with 85 participants (double the number we hoped for) everyone had a great time and we have had many requests to have a second one this fall. The ride was well organized with outstanding judges our great volunteers pitched in wherever needed and of course plenty of food. The judges had a long day, in our July heat wave, but with all the fun interacting with the riders it went quickly. There were trophies and ribbons for the top six point earners in each category. Watch the club newsletter for the second annual judged trail ride and plan to come out and have fun with us and your horse.

September is a very busy month for the horses of the Northeast with the scheduled shows and drill team practices to prepare for the upcoming fairs and parades. Should you be interested in getting involved in these events or would like show information please contact our regional representative Karen Maier at karensgaitway@aol.com or 717-266-2513.

Gettysburg Trail Ride - Recap
The Confederates and the Yankees met at Artillery Ridge on August 22nd at 10:45AM to begin their guided tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield and see it just as the armies of General Lee and General Meade saw it in 1863. We traveled the trenches to view how the confederate army would have seen the northern army stretched from Big Round top to Culp’s Hill. By wearing headphones, so everyone could hear, the park ranger told us story after story of interesting tidbits about the war and the town of Gettysburg. Aboard our mounts we traveled across Pickett’s Charge and envisioned how it would have looked, smelled and felt on those days in early July. Returning back to the Ridge our group enjoyed lunch and “horsey” conversation. Many thanks to Harold and Gayle Brown for hosting our Gettysburg experience.

Our day started with two mini-clinics: club member Harold Brown gave an excellent ground driving demonstration, Harold explained the benefits of starting your horse on the ground and the opportunities with driving. Everyone got the opportunity to try their hand at ground Click for a larger image driving our demo horse. (There will be ground driving classes at several of our shows this year, starting with the show on June 12th in Ft. Meade - come and cheer for the mountain horses.) Should you have any question about driving, please contact Harold at 717-624-2151 or Equi-Therapy contact Lisa at 717-445-5735.Click for a larger image

Our covered dish luncheon was fabulous, as usual, and a membership meeting followed. The silent auction raised $40 for the club and many door prizes were given away. We certified one horse and welcomed two new club members.

The trail riders set out for a wonderful, adventurous ride through and around the Park. As our non-riders enjoyed great conversation and a very relaxing afternoon. Returning back to the pavilion at 4:45, everyone parted ways before the rain drops started.
